In 2018, Soumaya accepted a position as a solicitor within the Domestic Violence Unit at Legal Aid NSW and worked within the team of solicitors representing and advocating for victims of family violence across both the Family Law Courts and Local Courts throughout Burwood, Fairfield and Liverpool.
Soumaya then transitioned to the Family Litigation team as a solicitor at the Blacktown Legal Aid office in early 2019. During her time there, Soumaya obtained further qualifications to work as an Independent Children’s Lawyer and gained experience in litigation, running urgent recovery applications, interim hearings and final hearings for both parties to proceedings and as the Independent Children’s Lawyer.
Soumaya was called to the bar in 2024. Since coming to the bar, Soumaya has represented litigants in final hearings on matters of both property and parenting disputes. Soumaya has ran complex parenting matters involving parental alienation both as counsel for litigants and the Independent Children’s Lawyer.
Soumaya has successfully ran interim applications on property issues including spousal maintenance, interim distribution of matrimonial funds, and injunctive applications for preservation of matrimonial funds pending final determination of proceedings. Soumaya has successfully ran interim parenting applications on issues regarding the spend time arrangements for children post separation.
Soumaya has also assisted litigants in settling matters on both final and interim basis, saving litigants the financial expense of proceeding with defended hearings.
